A Verizon employee has leaked Verizon’s plans to offer an employee-only black and red version of the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX. In addition to some Kevlar paint work, there will be a “LIMITED EDITION” tag permanently affixed to the front of the phone, right next to the Verizon logo. Most importantly though, the phones will be handsomely discounted, a 16GB RAZR will be $99 and a 32GB MAXX variant will run $199.
Who doesn’t love a fresh paint job on an already-released phone? This is somewhat of a hot-button topic. Some people love it, because they get a piece of that exclusivity pie without having to pre-order or stand in line. However those who did pre-order or stand in line often times hate it, especially if it’s a color that they would have preferred.
Fortunately in this case, nobody really has anything to gripe about. Of course there’s always the obvious, that this phone won’t be publicly available, so perhaps everyone can just gripe evenly. Regardless, the phones are reported to launch in April, which means two things. We can probably expect a significant RAZR price drop by April, and we can expect a flurry of limited edition RAZRs to be floating around on Craigslist and EBay for more than any sane person should spend on a smartphone.
